Originating from America, the "palo fierro" used on the handle of this anniversary knife is characterized by its dark colors and well-marked veins. Rightly nicknamed "ironwood" for its formidable robustness, it is a wood highly prized in cutlery that here wonderfully complements the incredible arabesques naturally drawn by Damascus steel.
Like a fingerprint, each blade forged in Damascus steel is unique in the world. The result of ancestral artisanal know-how, Damascus steel is a steel mille-feuille that reveals an alternation of stainless steels (soft and not very sensitive to oxidation) and carbon (hard and sharp) magnificently revealed in an acid bath. Adored by connoisseurs, surprising for amateurs, Damascus is the king of steel that has fascinated the world since the dawn of time.
Damascus-type steel is to cutlery what diamond is to jewelry: rare, precious, with extraordinary properties (in the literal sense of the term), Damascus steel makes your Deejo knife an exceptional piece that arouses all desires. Highly resistant to corrosion, with an incredible and durable cutting property, a Damascus knife is a real feast for the eyes: forged from an alternation of 8 layers of stainless and carbon steel folded 11 times on themselves, each blade reveals gray arabesques in geometric patterns that play with light in a stunning tone-on-tone effect. Each piece is unique, finely revealing the precise gestures of the blacksmith and his know-how. Adorned for the occasion with an anniversary seal celebrating Deejo's 10th anniversary finely engraved on the central screw, this collector's model is all the more exceptional.
Prestigious and particularly resilient, Damascus is one of the most durable steel alloys in the world, provided you follow a few simple instructions.
First, like any other metal blade, Damascus is susceptible to oxidation and rust. Rust is the result of oxidation of iron from prolonged exposure to humidity. Particularly rich in carbon, Damascus steel is more susceptible to rust. It is therefore essential to avoid prolonged contact with water and to dry your blade well after each use. A fortiori, dishwasher cleaning should be avoided in all circumstances or risk irreparably damaging your knife.
It is also important to avoid abrasive materials and strong chemicals, which could damage the Damascus pattern that makes these blades so beautiful and unique.
For sharpening, a Damascus steel blade is conventionally sharpened using a whet stone, sharpening steel or other suitable sharpener. However, care should be taken not to damage the characteristic pattern of the blade during this operation. In addition, the steel’s hardness may require more time to sharpen than a regular blade. Therefore, a precise procedure is recommended (respecting the 40-degree angle of the edge of the blade), using firm and repeated strokes over a period a little longer than usual.
