AFTER POCKET KNIVES, LUC FOIN AND STÉPHANE LEBEAU NOW INVITE US TO PERSONALIZE OUR STEAK KNIVES, FROM THE HANDLE TO THE TIP OF THE BLADE
by MONSIEUR Magazine
In 2014, Luc Foin and Stéphane Lebeau had the idea of bringing elegance back to an outdated concept, that of using a beautiful knife on a daily basis. They then founded Deejo, a cutlery company that specializes in offering pocket knives that can be laser tattooed and fully customizable. Very quickly, this idea interested French restaurant owners who were rather non-conformist and wanted to equip their tables with unique knives. Chefs David Galienne of Jardin des Plumes in Giverny, Laurent Peugeot of Charlemagne in Burgundy, and the duo Christophe Rousseau and Loïc Clee of the trendy restaurant Au Top in Paris, decided to order Deejo's avant-garde knives to add color to their tables. Based on this experience, it was only natural that the two co-founders decided to take their story one step further by offering their steak knives to a wider audience. Even better, they invite us to tattoo and customize our own thanks to their innovative interface.
A Unique experience with an immersive interface
Indeed, the brand is launching a brand new interface online that allows everyone to design their own steak knives. You can choose from the proposed themes that have been curated by the brand's talented illustrators, such as Art Deco, Grand Siècle, Japanese, Toile de Jouy, Geometry, and Blossom. In sets of 2, 4, or 6 pieces, each knife will be engraved differently to create a visual harmony in the spirit of traditional tableware. While the approach is modern, a certain classicism remains at the core of Deejo. “We are not reinventing the knife or its use, says Luc Foin. We're just shaking up the norms a bit.”
So how does it work? Nothing could be simpler. You just have to go to the company’s website and let yourself be guided. After choosing the theme of the tattoo, you can choose amongst different options: the sharpness (razor or micro-serrated), the type of wood for the handle (olive tree, ebony, or coral wood), the finish (mirror or grey titanium), and why not engrave your motto, the name of a place or a special dedication? The interface allows you to write a small text on the handle to add a little more conviviality to the shared meal. On the Deejo website, you can build and design your steak knife set before your eyes. It's easy to use and quite entertaining because as Luc Foin says, "it's about cooking, it's about having fun and of course enjoying above all!” The best part: your knives will be made and shipped from the Deejo workshop in the Paris region in less than 48 hours!
